چکیده
Salivary gland neoplasms are a heterogeneous and important group of tumors of the Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. They comprise from 2 to 3% of all the salivary gland lesions and tumors1,2 because their heterogeneity, since several years, different classifications based in clinical or microscopic criteria had been appeared.3-7 The most recent and most widely used is that proposed by Seifert et al.,8 that has been adopted by the World Health Organization.9 In 1960, Chaudhry10 informed of 1414 cases of salivary gland neoplasms from people living in Minneapolis, 51 cases (3.6%) were carcinomas. Later, Eneroth11 published an study reporting on the location, ABSTRACT

Dynamic Contrast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DCE-MRI) and Diffusion Weighted MR Imaging (DWI) for Differentiation between Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors
Background: Salivary gland tumors form nearly 3% of head and neck tumors. Due to their large histological variety and vicinity to facial nerves, pre-operative diagnosis and differentiation of benign and malignant parotid tumors are a major challenge for radiologists. Objective: The majority of these tumors are benign; however, sometimes they tend to transform into a malignant form. Functional M...
متن کاملMalignant Pleomorphic Adenoma (Malignant Mixed Tumor) of the Minor Salivary Glands
Salivary gland tumors accounts for less than 1% of all tumors. Minor salivary gland tumors (MSGTs) are uncommon and make up about 10% of all salivary gland neoplasms. The clinical and histopathological distribution of these tumors vary geographically. A case of a 38 yr old man with a minor salivary gland mass at chin region isreported here. The tumor invaded into the anterior ...
متن کاملT-helper Type 1 and 2 Cytokine Levels in Patients with Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors
Background: Salivary gland tumors are among malignancies that have high recurrence rate. Immune responses in salivary gland tumors have not been well elucidated. T helper type 1 (Th1) and Th2 cytokines have been reported to play a role in the outcome of head and neck cancers. Objective: To evaluate the serum levels of interferon gamma (IFN- γ), as the hallmark of Th1 cytokines, and interleukin-...
متن کاملSerum Levels of Cyfra 21 in Patients with Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors
Introduction: Cyfra 21 is a serum-soluble fragment of cytokeratin19. Increased Cyfra 21 serum levels and their benefit as a tumor marker have been shown in some malignancies. This study aimed to evaluate the serum levels of Cyfra 21 in patients with benign and malignant salivary gland tumors. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the serum level of Cyfra 21 in 44 patients with m...
متن کاملMTA1 Expression in Benign and Malignant Salivary gland Tumors
Introduction: Salivary gland tumors (SGTs) are important parts of human neoplasms. The most common SGT is pleomorphic adenoma and the most common malignant SGTs are mucoepidermoid carcinoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). Metastasis-associated genes 1 (MTA1), a member of the nucleosome remodeling and histone deacetylation complex, is one newly discovered gene which recruits histone deacetyl...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical Expression of CD56 and ALDH1 in Common Salivary Gland Tumors
Introduction: Natural killer (NK) cells, of which CD56 is a specific marker, play an important role in host defense against tumors. Cancer stem cells, of which aldehyde dehydrogenase isoform 1 (ALDH1) is an immunohistochemical marker, are a group of tumorigenic cells which are involved in migration and tumor recurrences. We aimed to evaluate the expression of ALDH1 and CD56 in common salivary g...
